Biography

Sahil Peris is a folk singer-songwriter and has been a performing artist since he was five. His aunt spotted his talent when she heard him singing jingles from TV commercials as he ran up and down the stairs of his family home. Impressed by his ability, she encouraged him to perform at his grandparent's anniversary celebration where his performance left all the attendees awestruck. That incident marked the beginning of his journey in music.

Within the next year, Sahil’s mother had enrolled him in music lessons and he had joined his school’s choir, where he soon became the lead singer. The choir competed in several competitions across Delhi, often bagging first place. They also performed at several notable events including The Commonwealth games 2010 and Christmas Celebrations at Rashtrapati Bhavan. While in high school Sahil became the president of his school's music society and the lead singer of his school band which won first place at several local competitions.

At 17, Sahil moved to the US to pursue a degree in Computer Science at The University of Massachusetts, Amherst. During his time there, he stumbled upon the music of British folk artist, Passenger (Mike Rosenberg) who became a highly inspirational figure for Sahil. Mike’s journey, as well as his music, inspired Sahil to write his own music and transform from an amateur to a professional musician. He became more disciplined in practising music, taught himself to play the acoustic guitar, and became proficient at the art of sound recording. In his third year at university, he competed at UMass Voice, a singing competition open to 30,000 university students, where he was awarded first place.

After graduating from University, Sahil accepted a job as a software engineer at a tech company in Boston. He wrote code by day and busked at subway stations by night. He was offered a chance to perform at local venues but had to decline due to visa restrictions. After two years of living this life, Sahil moved back to India, where he joined his family’s business and performed music professionally. Since then, he has given over 400 performances across India, the UK, and Singapore. As a songwriter, he has worked with renowned artists from Bollywood and the Indian independent music scene as well as with Grammy nominated artist, Beau Vallis. His latest album features leading indie music figures Anindo Bose, Pranai Gurung, Rohit Prassanna, and Prasanna Suresh, as well as 11 other renowned local artists from across India. Sahil is a regular performer at Delhi’s iconic Piano Man Jazz Club and has performed at several music festivals including the HT Imagine Fest where he was the opening act for Bollywood artist, Piyush Mishra. In addition to producing his own music, Sahil also produces a variety of songs for marketing campaigns for companies that range from big retail giants to startups.

His latest single, in collaboration with Indian beer start up Kati Patang, is scheduled for release in the first week of August '20.
